The true Scriptural source of consolation, in the face of all that troubles us, is to keep steadily before our eyes the second coming of Christ.
We must grasp and realize the blessed fact that the rightful King of the world is returning soon, and shall have His own again; that He shall put down that old usurper, the devil, and take away the curse from off the earth.
Let us cultivate the habit of daily looking forward to the resurrection of the dead, the gathering together of the saints, the restitution of all things, the banishment of sorrow and sin, and the re-establishment of a new kingdom, of which the rule shall be righteousness.
It’s time for yet another edition of Free Stuff Fridays. This week’s sponsor is the same as last week’s—Ligonier Ministries. This week they are offering five great prize packages, each of which consists of three books by Richard Phillips and a pass to a conference.
I am finishing my 2nd deployment to Iraq. I am waiting on the plane ride. My first deployment was in 2005.
In the 2005 deployment, our unit did many different tasks. We trained an Iraqi Army battalion in Najaf, escorted and provided security for Civil Affairs unit in Babil province and did presence patrols. I witnessed a car bomb that killed Iraqi civilians, but did not harm my platoon. It was set for us, but through a fortuitous set of circumstances, we were early. I walked beneath an improvised explosive device (IED) that was set on a shack by the road. Five minutes later it was remotely detonated, but only caused a minor concussion with a gunner of the 2/11 Armored Cavalry Regiment that we were working with. We did numerous raids with no casualties to our men and one non-fatal to only one insurgent. Throughout that whole deployment, I never had to take a life an we did not lose a man!
This deployment, we have put a lot of miles on our vehicles. For a whole month, we drove on one of the most dangerous roads in Iraq, but nothing happened till the day after we left there. Again I never had to take a life and did not lose man!
The hand of God has been on me and my men. I do not know why, but God in His providence has looked after us. Praise be to God! He is mighty to save and protect! All honor and thanks and praise be to our God and to His Son Jesus Christ for all he has done and will continue to do for me!
“With regard to the opponent, don’t fight [argue] with anybody you don’t pray for, and this will affect the way you write, and what you are willing to say. Your opponent is either a brother or he isn’t. If he is, then remember that the Lord loves him, and bears with him. If he is not, remember that apart from the grace of God, we would be right there with him.”—
“Let the Word of Christ dwell richly in you. Because when someone looks you in the eyes and says your five-year-old daughter has a cancerous tumor the size of a Nerf football, you better know some Bible. Not for the sake of the Bible itself, but because the Bible tells us about Jesus, and reveals the character of God so that we can know that He is good and faithful.”—Britt Merrick (Big God, p.22) (via chrislazo)
“It is no good giving me a play like Hamlet or King Lear, and telling me to write a play like that. Shakespeare could do it — I can’t. And it is no good showing me a life like the life of Jesus and telling me to live a life like that. Jesus could do it — I can’t. But if the genius of Shakespeare could come and live in me, then I could write plays like this. And if the Spirit could come into me, then I could live a life like his.”—William Temple
So I got up today, drove to Philadelphia in freezing rain, did testing for 3 hours, met with the doctor. I thought I was doing ok, even though in this weather it is VERY difficult to breathe outside. A woman from the transplant team came in first and said “So what are you doing at home that we…
Leviticus 23:34-39 ~ “On the fifteenth day of this seventh month and for seven days is the Feast of Booths to the Lord…for presenting to the Lord food offerings, burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings…you shall celebrate the feast of the Lord seven days”
John 7:37 ~ “On the last day of the feast [of Booths], the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. “
Jesus is the life of the party—The life that all parties point to in dire thirst.
A few days ago I moved out of my residence at Q-West and into transient housing here. Basically that means I am a short-timer. I now have under 10 days until I leave Q-West and start the journey back to the United States. One bad thing about this is that we have a whole battalion in transient housing and all trying to use the wireless connection here. Yes, the internet (which was bad to begin with) is worse. Getting on is easy, but the speeds are slow. I will try to post some updates, but It will pretty much be a one-way thing for a while. I already know that if I stop in Germany, the internet rates there were exorbitant and Camp Shelby, Mississippi is about the same.
I am excited though, get to see my wife for the first time since May!
I have a prayer request though. When I left Camp Shelby in May, I was scheduled for a follow up chest x-ray and MRI. I had some spots show up on my lung. In a way this was a good thing, cause it made me quit smoking. Now I have tested positive for tuberculosis since my deployment to Bosnia in 2001-2002, so it could be just that, which I have been informed by doctors isn’t that serious. It could be something worse though…I don’t know…I feel fine though. Just hoping for a little intercession there, but whatever the outcome I know God is in control!
Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,” so that we confidently say,”THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?”
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
I’ve kept track and when the barometer is falling, or stays low for a few days, it is extremely difficult for me to breathe. I have no idea why that would be. And when there is snow on the ground/melting, it’s also harder. And when the conditions stay like that, it seems to compound, that is get a little worse every day.
When there is very little research into what causes what you have, you end up doing your OWN research. It’s not much fun, but it is pretty interesting at times, particularly when you find there is a correlation, or at least you think you’ve found one.
Anyway, the barometer is low right now and I can’t breathe worth crap.
But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
“When we are trusting Christ most authentically, we are not thinking about trusting, but about Christ. When we step out of the moment to examine it, we cease what we were doing, and therefore cannot see it. My counsel for strugglers therefore is relentlessly: Look to Jesus. Look to Jesus in his word. And pray for eyes to see.”—John Piper- Lessons From an Inconsolable Soul
Well I have held out long enough on this one. Here is something very exciting happening in of my best friends lives. He is by far one of the most genuine men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and an absolute blessing to serve with day in and day out. He is my pastor, my colleague, my boss, my friend and most importantly my brother. He has written his first book and it is with great pleasure that we release the website attached to said book. Please browse around and enjoy what God has choose to do in and through this mans life. love.
Check this book out! I am going to go ahead and pre-order it today. I have listened to Britt’s sermons online for about 3 years now. He is an exciting preacher that I have found to be be strongly biblically based, Spirit-filled and exciting to listen to. I know that listening to him has definitely made a difference in my life!
Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises. Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
Hi all, wanted to give a quick request for prayer tomorrow. Daisy will be getting an echo which is like an ultrasound on her heart to see if it is strong enough to complete her chemo as one of the agents causes heart damage. Thankfully she gets to eat breakkie first! Phew… After that she will get another dose of chemo. As always, His will be done, but we obviously would love it if her heart is good and strong, so we can knock back those last 4 rounds like nothin’! So, please pray for the echo tech to do their job correctly, and fear of the “red medicine” would not cause our precious one to freak out. The red medicine is the one that caused the horrific reaction, and ever since when she sees it she cringes really hard and shakes in my arms for most of it. Pray for Daisy to become a victorious warrior! Thanks loved ones, you’re all amazing… p.s. She has grown some luscious peach fuzz on her noggin! It reminds me of when she was born and it’s pretty sweet.
Romans 8:38, 39 I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
“Oh, that you could be aroused! Seek the Lord, I pray you, while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. For you cannot be assured of your life for a moment. Avail yourself, then, of the present moment. The Lord may be found right now, but you do not know how long that will last. Right now He invites you to come so that He may offer you His favor and grace. He stands with open arms and waits. Do not let this season of grace–the time in which He may be found–pass you by”—Theodorus Jacobus Frelinghuysen
